It all started with the question, "What does the Golden Gate Bridge sound like?" To find out, we assayed the bridge, armed with audio recorder and camera.

The theme of this site is investigation, sampling, and analysis of the sonic properties of large or unusual man-made structures. Each "assay" on the site is a report on a particular investigation, usually a recording expedition with some underlying theme or question such as "What do the bronze monuments of Stockholm sound like?" or "Does the USS Enterprise sound interesting enough to build a synth library out of?"

An assay is also a narrative index into our collection of sampled materials. Add yours.
