Alas! In Memoriam unpublished

Eliot’s “The Hollow Men,” 1925, is gratefully acknowledged; however, being as yet under copyright in the US, its use in this piece regretfully forces us to remove it from the site. Perhaps we will try again in 2020, or obtain permission.

Well, it’s unfortunate to remove work but we need to be clear on whether a CC BY or BY-SA license can — or should — be claimed if content can be justified under an assumption of fair use. In fact, that’s a thread we’d love to see an expert post. Meanwhile we remind ourselves that we are here to share and reuse sounds, not to challenge the copyright Hydra outright.

Oh, and we have now tested (a) the “Unpublish” feature and (b) editing of Hidden File properties.

We’re republishing with the stipulation that In Memoriam cannot be put to commercial use. Anyone taking issue with this approach, the fair use claim, or this topic in general please contact us or post to this forum.

That seems like a very reasonable approach.

Next time I catch an intellectual property lawyer in an unguarded moment, I will have many questions!
